Brief interview with Rinaldo Romagnoli, from ISTITUTO
EUROPEO.
Q. What is the philosophy behind your school?
A. The Institute's philosophy is to make learning enjoyable, to study in depth
the language and the Italian culture in a friendly, multicultural environment. The teaching
method of the Italian language course, based on the most innovative concepts of language
instruction, gives students the opportunity to live the language on all levels and learn
its spoken and written usage. Attention is placed both on the correct use of grammar and
syntax as well as on the use of everyday language.
Q. What makes your school different?
A.Istituto Europeo is also an active cultural centre that offers courses on
Italian history, art and history of art, literature, music (both instrumental and vocal).
Nearly every day there are extracurricular activities which range from seminars on Italian
Literature, art history and music, to films, concerts, walking tours, parties, dinners,
soccer and volleyball games, and of course the weekend excursions. Students enrolled in
our Fine art and Music courses will also have a chance to demonstrate, to their fellow
students and the public, what theyve learned through monthly recitals and art shows.?

Q. Where do the majority of your students come from?
A.50 are European (Germany, UK, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Austria), 20% North
American, 15% Asian (Japan and Korea), 10% Central and South America (Venezuela,
Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador) and about 5% from Australia/New Zealand.
Q. What are the qualifications of your teachers?
A.All of our Italian teachers hold degrees in Italian Language and Literature, or
Classical Letters. Most of them are graduates of the university of Florence. Before
teaching at Istituto Europeo, all of our teachers are required to complete specialization
courses on teaching Italian to foreigners.
Q. What would your advice be to a student looking for a language school?
A.Of course there are many Italian language schools in Florence, but look for the
school that will best complete your Italian cultural experience. Consider what they are
offering you in terms of services, supplemental courses, activities, seminars and
excursions.
From the point of view of students:
Ana Cristina Caelen, Ensenada, Mexico
"Attending this school was truly a unique experience. I am very happy to have
chosen Istituto Europeo. The staff and the teachers are wonderful and their dedication is
admirable. The school is in the most beautiful spot in Florence, I could enjoy amazing
views of the Duomo from the classroom!"
Julia Kiss, Malmö, Sweden
"I spent the whole of last semester in Florence, studying Italian but
also taking courses in history, art history and literature. I found that these three
courses complimented each other and that it was definitely an advantage to study the
Renaissance from three different perspectives. As for the language, I knew no Italian when
I came to the school and now - 4 months later - I can have conversations with Italians and
write more or less understandably... :-) "
Nasha Solis, Isla Verde, Puerto
Rico
"This is Nasha Solis, a student that just came back from
studying in Florence at Istituto Europeo. Can't put my experience
into words, but I can make an attempt to
ITS SENSATIONAL!
Something to definitely experience! The people, the school...(small,
but its got it all)... Firenze ...everything....and nothing
is left out. It completed my life...and hope it can work for you
too...Good Luck and Best Wishes!"
