ALYSON MORGAN

Professor of Italian Wines

e-mail:

Prof.ssa Alyson Morgan

Alyson graduated in 1999 from the world's top Viticulture and Enology program at the University of California, Davis with degrees in both Genetics and Viticulture & Enology.
As a student, she began by specialising in the genetics of the grapevine by performing genetic research on grape resistance to the vine pest, phylloxera. She gained teaching experience as an instructor of a human genetic engineering course for pre-med students at UC Davis.
As the focus shifted from genetics, she began concentrating on her winemaking career. In the California wine region of Mendocino, she worked as an enologist for Kendall-Jackson during the 1997 and 1998 harvest seasons where she performed all winery and laboratory tasks.
In 1998, she and two others transformed a house into a winery where they fermented, aged and bottled their own Napa Valley Pinot noir.
Upon graduating, she relocated to Chianti Classico to continue work as an enologist and vineyard researcher for Kendall-Jackson at their Villa Arceno Estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga.
In 2000, she moved to the San Casciano region of Chianti Classico to work at Villa St. Andrea in order to develop a wine analysis laboratory and perform vineyard research on grape phenolic maturation.
Since January 2001, she has been working as winemaker and director of production at Azienda Uggiano located in the Florentine hills of the Chianti region.
