Conditions of participation: Course enrollments must be sent to the ISTITUTO EUROPEO with the tuition deposit preferably 30 days before the beginning of the course.

REGISTRATION FEE: A registration fee of 60 Euro, valid for 12 months, must be paid.

To enroll it is necessary to pay 50% of the fee(s) for the chosen course(s) and the registration fee of €60.

Course enrollments made at the ISTITUTO EUROPEO on the same day that a course begins, must be paid in full, at the time of enrollment.

All payments may be made by International Post Money Order or by International Bank Cheque, by Bank transfer (without charges for the beneficiary) or by credit card (see enrollment form).

Final Payments: The course must be paid in full no later than three days after the beginning of the course, and under the conditions stated in the enrollment confirmation. Course payments cannot be transferred, for any reason, from one student to another.

Cancellations:

Notification of a course cancellation must be sent to the ISTITUTO EUROPEO by certified letter, fax, telegram.

If the cancellation occurs:

  • If the cancellation is received within 30 days prior to the beginning of the course, 70% of the course deposit will be refunded.
  • If the cancellation is received less than 30 days prior to the beginning of the course the entire deposit will be withheld. After the beginning of the course, students forfeit all tuition money received.
  • After the beginning of the course, students forfeit all tuition money received by ISTITUTO EUROPEO.
  • No refunds will be made to students who decide to withdraw from the school once the course has begun.

The registration fee will not be returned in any event.

In the event of a cancellation after the visa has been issued (and therefore after having sent the application to our offices), the refund will be given only if your visa has been cancelled with proof of documentation that displays that the visa has been cancelled from the certified Embassy or Consulate. Cancellation does not mean that your visa application has been denied, but instead it means that you are cancelling a visa that was issued prior to the cancellation.

ISTITUTO EUROPEO is not responsible for course cancellations related to students who have not been able to obtain a student visa.

Insurance: Neither the ISTITUTO EUROPEO nor the apartment landlords are responsible for accidents, illnesses, thefts or loss of personal belongings. It is therefore recommended that students acquire their own insurance policy.

Lessons: Lessons are held Monday through Friday in the morning or in the afternoon. Lessons are not held on National or Religious holidays recognized by the Italian state. Lessons missed for reasons related to holidays or student absence in general are not recuperated. 1 lesson: 45 minutes

Academic Rules: The Administration of ISTITUTO EUROPEO reserves the right to expel students whose ethical or academic behavior is detrimental for the school or fellow students.

Housing Assistance: The housing options are available for check-in, 1 day before the start date of the course (usually Sunday), and check-out is at mid-day following the last day of the course (usually Saturday).

ISTITUTO EUROPEO does not own any apartments or housing facilities, but acts purely as an intermediary between the apartment owners and the students. Students are not required to use the ISTITUTO EUROPEO’s housing assistance in order to participate in the courses. Students may also contact one of the several housing agencies in Florence for assistance.

Responsibility: ISTITUTO EUROPEO is not liable for any arguments or problems between the students and the landlords.

Housing Regulations and Rules

Students will pay rent and utility fees directly to the apartment owners on a monthly basis (in cash) or to the hotel (cash/credit card). Students may NOT host friends or family in their apartments). Your landlord is responsible for broken pipes or other objects that break due to normal use.

He/she is NOT responsible for clogged toilets, sinks, shower drains, or for broken objects due to improper use.

Istituto Europeo is not responsible of the continuity of the Internet Service offered to its students, as like as any damage or failure that might happen to the portable PC of the students and logged into our network

Discounts and Special Offers: Discounts and special offers will be applied/valid only at the time of enrollment and can neither be accumulated nor transferred to another student, and nor can they be transferred to another course.

Changing Courses: Once the enrollment has been completed and the certificate issued, it is not possible to change the course of study.

Policy
For Participants in the IE Administered Italy Internship Program

A) IE ( = Istituto Europeo) works in partnership with a team that is responsible for the coordination of internship placements.
B) IE organizes the program structure, sets the start dates and upon receipt of application, works with the placement team to find a host company appropriate to your background and qualifications. Upon arrival, an IE In-Country Coordinator, who will be managing the program locally, is responsible for presenting you and your qualifications to our partner placement team who will take over the placement process and coordination of your internship. An IE In-Country Coordinator will welcome you at IE for a first orientation about the internships and the school, and will be present to assist you at your meeting with the internship partner that will take place before the company interview. (In some situations, our partner acts as our representative and internship coordinator). Any questions or concerns about your internship placement that arise either during the placement meeting or the company interview must be addressed to your IE In-Country Coordinator. For any emergencies that may arise during your program you can call or email IE during office hours: info@istitutoeuropeo.it tel. 055 - 23 81 071/ 055 21 74 03 - fax 055 – 28 91 45.
**Emergency cell phone number for program coordinator: +39 392-26237491 or +39 392-27-17-114
Alternate Emergency cellphone number for program coordinator: +39 3348467730
When IE receives applications, the institute will propose two or three placement options from which the intern can choose. The options are not definite placements (although in 90% of cases these options do constitute definite placements). Unfortunately there are occasions when, for reasons beyond the control of IE, the proposed options do change and a placement is not possible. A placement may be changed because the intern fails his/her interview, the company changes its own internal structure, the company decides to renounce the intern's collaboration, etc. In this case the intern will be offered another choice, with respect to the options indicated by IE at the commencement of the internship process.
Regarding these placements the intern must know that, according to the agreements between IE and the institutions (universities, agencies, etc.) from which the students come, it is expected that the intern will begin their placement after a month of Italian language lessons. This will give the intern a greater capacity for linguistic interaction, enabling them to work with fewer difficulties in the host company. It is at the discretion of IE to begin a placement after a shorter time period, if deemed appropriate. However, IE is not in any way bound to begin placements before the pre-arranged day, and, conversely, placements may also be delayed due to insufficient Italian language ability.
C) After completing the interview process, you are expected to accept the position upon receiving an offer by the company (provided that it matches one of the two internship areas listed on your application). If after the interview the company is unable to offer an internship, we will provide you with another opportunity to interview with a different company.
D) IE and its partners will make every effort to provide the highest quality placements given an applicant's experience. However, should an applicant refuse a placement offered (assuming that it matches one of the two internship areas indicated on your application) IE and its partners will not be bound to find any further alternatives.
Afterwards, if the applicant persists in requiring second, third or fourth placement options they will be charged extra on the basis of 450EUROS each time.
All positions which are offered will be communicated in written form, and you are also expected to accept or decline a position in written form. In the event that you decide not to take a position that has been offered, you must write the specific reasons for not accepting the position. If the reasons for turning down an offer are unjustified or used as a pretext, IE and its partners are not responsible for finding another placement. Interns must attend all interviews presented to them and weekday vacations (not included in our program) are not acceptable excuses for not being able to attend and ultimately accept the interview. Refusal by the applicant to attend internship interviews will not constitute reasonable grounds for a new interview.
Students must remember that they are in a formal working environment, and are expected to behave appropriately at all times: lateness, poor attitude and disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated. Similarly, it is unacceptable for students to decide to leave a placement before the end of the project without a valid reason or prior to discussion with Istituto Europeo and the host company. Poor conduct and/or failure to complete a placement without a valid reason can result in host companies choosing not to work with Istituto Europeo again, and in this situation Istituto Europeo may consider taking legal action against the student.
E) Due to an intern's specific request, it is sometimes impossible for us to avoid conflicts between language class schedules and internship hours. In this case, the success of the Internship Program will remain the priority.
F) It is the responsibility of the internship student to pay their own expenses for travelling to and from their placement each working day, e.g. bus/train tickets, or any other form of transport which the student chooses to use. Expenses will not be paid by Istituto Europeo, by the host company, or by any other third party.
G) It is the responsibility of each student to organize- before arriving in Italy- their own visa for travelling to and studying in Italy, and to check the most recent legal information regarding Italian visa requirements. Istituto Europeo is not responsible for arranging any part of the visa process. Failure to acquire the correct visa will mean that you cannot begin your internship, for which Istituto Europeo cannot be held liable.
H) Istituto Europeo is not responsible for any problems occurring in students' accommodation, nor for any problems between the intern and his/her landlord.
I) Istituto Europeo is not responsible of the continuity of the Internet Service offered to its students, nor any damage or failure that might happen to a student's PC logged into our network.
J) Istituto Europeo reserves the right to withhold transcripts of students who violate contracts or leave debts (housing or academic). Istituto Europeo reserves the right to suspend the internship immediately when the intern’s behaviour turns out to be damaging or detrimental to IE.
Local Customs and Laws. Applicants must be conscious that they will be travelling to a foreign country, with different customs, habits, standards, laws and risks than they are used to. They have to understand and acknowledge that (a) one may become sick or hurt while participating in a Program. (b) One may be arrested or imprisoned if one does not conform to local laws. U.S. laws are not recognized in Italy. Only the laws of Italy govern you during your residence here and you are responsible for understanding and conforming to these laws. (c) Crime does exist in all countries, and whilst in a foreign country one may be a victim of crime; and (d) one may not agree with local customs and standards. Consequently applicants must accept the above described risks and other risks associated with travel in, to and among foreign countries. Applicants must understand that they are responsible for exercising caution and common sense at all times and agree to release and not hold IE responsible for any such problems they encounter participating in a Program.
Culture shock. All of us belong to a culture. Much of the way we think about the world, relate to other people, and experience our life is shaped, in part, by culture. Culture is a system of behaviour patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought. We learn culture and it becomes part of who we are. We are surrounded by clues that reinforce this cultural identity. When we are thrust into a new environment, where very little is familiar to us, we lack those clues that help us. It can be very disorienting. This is a natural condition called culture shock. Everyone experiences culture shock to some degree when exposed to a new culture, and it can be frustrating and confusing.
How can you cope with culture shock? In this case you need above all three things: flexibility, consciousness and open-mindedness. Only using these weapons can you defeat the overwhelming weight of culture shock.
Miscommunication. A certain amount of miscommunication is common in any work environment. Interning abroad in a new culture where a new language may be spoken will certainly create more chances for miscommunications and misunderstandings. If you have a question or concern, mention it to your supervisor at your work site in a concise and professional manner. By maintaining an open dialogue with your supervisor and your In-Country Coordinator you can minimize miscommunication.
Unorganized work environment. In countries other than your own, you may be confronted with the realities of hard work in environments that may appear chaotic, unorganized or maybe just different from your own. Try to be patient with your host company and yourself. The lack of organization and the presence of chaos can be overwhelming and can create stress. But try to remember that what appears to be chaos (especially in a foreign country) can simply be a system or structure that you have not yet perceived or don’t understand yet. Try to understand the new mentality you are coping with.
Absence of work. Generally companies in Italy are interested in having interns. For them it represents a good opportunity to confront and exchange different ideas and it is a stimulus for renewing and refreshing their point of view. It may appear at times that there isn’t enough work for you to do at a site. This is mostly when the company realizes that you are not really keen to experience your internship. You have to propose yourself for new projects, or personally suggest ideas for a new project. They love it when they see interest and participation in the company’s activity.
Procurement of Travel Insurance. It is required for ALL program participants to acquire all travel insurance necessary to cover participants for the entire length of the program. This coverage is not provided by IE program fees. The participant must agree to provide IE with evidence of said travel insurance prior to departing for the host country. Further, IE and its partners reserve the right to deny a participant at the beginning of a program if evidence of the necessary travel insurance is not provided accordingly. The participant is required to acquire travel insurance because IE, nor its partners, are responsible for unforeseen events out of their control, which includes any instance of theft, burglary, assault, injury, loss of property, medical emergencies or other medical needs, or any other circumstance which might arise as a result of the participant travelling abroad. There are risks associated with international travel and it is important that participants are aware of the specific risks as they relate to the host country for their program.

The participant acknowledges they have read and accepted the terms and conditions set forth. The participant also acknowledges that it is the responsibility of the participant to understand the limitations of their travel insurance coverage and agrees that IE is not responsible for any uninsured losses.
